When you open QuickBooks see the New Insight tab on the home page:
Get a quick snapshot of how your business is doing.  To customize for exactly what you would like to see, click on the gear icon top right corner of tab
 and choose from Profit and Loss, Top customers by sales, Business growth, Previous year expense comparison and a few others. 

Bill Tracker is a new feature:

All in one place, view your purchase orders, unpaid bills and even bills that are overdue or what bills were paid in the last 30 days. Purchase orders can be converted to a bill from this Bill Tracker (look under actions). Each tab can be grouped by date or vendor. 

Bulk Remove Feature within the Send Forms screen is new this year:

This would be very handy in keeping your Send Forms screen in QuickBooks from getting overly full of various forms, that have not yet been emailed.  Click on all the forms you want to remove at one time and then click on the remove button.

Reports have a new filter:

This Fiscal-Year-to-Last-Month filter can now be used in filtering your reports up through the end of last month.

New Search filter:

Whether you have open an invoice, sales receipt, purchase order or bill, now you can use the search option to find a particular line item.

Item Reports - with custom field filtering now available:

Item reports such as: Inventory Valuation, Stock Status, Shortage, Physical Inventory Worksheet, Pending Builds, and
their variants can now filter on custom fields within QuickBooks 2016 versions. 

New Respect Delete Permissions:

This is a user permission. Previous versions, even if the user did not have delete permissions, they could delete what they
created within the same session.  Now, the user must have delete permissions enabled in order to be able to delete within
any user session.

Customer Payment screen (only available in QuickBooks Enterprise version):

If you have a need to search for a particular payment, you can now sort on any column within the Customer Payment screen and
quickly find the transaction you are looking for.

Batch Delete Transactions (only available in QuickBooks Accountant version):

This is a new function allowing you to batch transactions that can be deleted or voided all at once. 


QuickBook 2015 Added:

Income Tracker-
Money bar gives total of your unbilled, unpaid, and paid  Estimates, Time & Expenses, Sales Orders, Invoices transactions
A new tab has been added to the money bar for Time & Expense. You can now see any customer time or expense that has not yet been billed.
You can control which details you want to see.

New Insights dashboard has been added to QuickBooks home page -  

  • Chart how your monthly Profit and Loss and see how your doing
  • View your open and overdue Account Receivables
  • Quick view of company spending and have better control over your cash flow

New for QuickBooks Admin user -
No more waiting for an employee to come back from lunch to save, if necessary, their unsaved report or sales form and close down their QuickBooks.

Saves time when a backup is required and all users must be out of QuickBooks before doing the backup.

Easier to now send a portable copy of your company file to your accountant.

Pin Notes -

  • For a Customer, Vendor, or Employee

  • Can now add an "important" note that will be viewed on the profile portion of the Customer, Vendor or Employee page

  • Only one note can be pinned - make it the one you want to be easily viewed without having to go under the notes tab

Billable Time and Costs
Invoicing a customer and open the add billable time window.
The tabs (Time, Expenses, Mileage, Items) now include total of # of billable entries for each tab.
Reduces time needed to search each tab for billable time.

Estimates -

  • Automatic price adjustments in QuickBooks Enterprise. Set a default markup percentage for each item, when the cost price changes, you can elect to automatically update the selling price by the markup. The setting includes an option to always update the cost, but ask before updating the price.

  • Now available up to 750 price levels (prior QuickBook editions only included 100)

  • Advanced inventory users (extra fee of $699/year) New features in QuickBook Enterprise 12
    Offers a view of inventory by location in the inventory center.
    First in First Out inventory valuation rather than average cost is an optional choice - and select your start date
    Multi-location inventory tracking (came out last year- however worth mentioning again!)
    Serial number OR Lot number tracking - select which forms you want to show the Serial numbers or lot numbers
    QuickBooks can be set to warn if the serial or lot number is blank, duplicated or does not exist.

  • Enhanced Inventory receiving - The item receipt and the bill are now 2 different transactions. An item receipt will increase inventory as of the received date but not increase accounts payable instead it will increase a clearing account, the bill will increase accounts payable based on the date you enter the bill, which will NOT change your inventory values, instead it will post to the clearing account. So after posting 1 item receipt and its related bill, the clearing account will be zero. This feature may cause conflicts with third party software you are currently using. Definitely a must implement for NEW QuickBooks files; for existing files, be sure make a backup, do a test and have your accountant help you decide if it should be turned on.

    When you want to make sure your customer has sufficient funds available on their credit card, you can authorize the funds before you process the order. When you authorize funds for a credit card, the funds are placed on hold, and the limit of the customer's credit card is lowered by this amount.
